LETTER TO TUCKER CARLSON OF CROSSFIRE

Subject: Crossfire last night; my letter to Tucker Carlson

To Crossfire:

I am humiliated and embarrassed, wrapped in Ugly Americanism that makes that of the fifties look like good taste itself.

Is it the fact that George W. Bush has been let loose in Europe (which he never in 50 years had any desire to visit, preferring to spend free time gaining his "culture" from cowboy country), where he can't pronounce the name of the Spanish dignitary he meets with? Is it that he dares try to show his "smarts" by speaking a little Spanish (hoping it surpasses his English?) and messes up the simplest gender identification? Is it that people all over the world are wondering WHY we let him go?

No, it's people who supposedly represent US. Last night on Crossfire, no way to wiggle out of the fact that the people in Europe find Bush an ignorant buffoon, Tucker Carlson had only one defense: to question whether the European countries are "civilized." Come ON. It happened. I watched it. Tucker point blank asked Bill Press (who didn't weasel down this time) if he considered Belgium "civilized." Press answered, "Yes, France too."

I hang my head and wonder how much further the far right will embarrass us in order to defend Bush.

Guess what, Tucker. The civilized countries of the world see George Bush as a moron who knows virtually NOTHING of what's going on in the world. And guess what - those thoughts are also being felt by over half the people in this country.

Please AT LEAST spare us the desperation of turning your defense of the illiterate, unread, UNcompassionate, mentally sheepheaded, slack-jawed, bumbling, bought-and-paid-for cowboy into an insult of Europe.
