![]() George W. Bush skirts 226 yrs of American History Kevin M. Merrifield, page 20 06/07/01 The fears of George Washington have been realized in the new king George - excessive partisanship and a disregard for national unity with the end intent being pure power and profit and the establishment of a corporate aristocracy unbeholden to the ideals of democracy, the constitution, the Bill of Rights, and especially the Declaration of Independence. Behind Dubya's facade of Christian compassion is a deftly orchestrated program of elitist economic liberalism designed to advance a single class of families beyond the reach of the rule of law (this is the 1%, but only a percentage of them are the concern of the Bush's oligarchy). They proceed in their anti-American plans by gutting two centuries of laws, under the guise of "deregulation", which have developed to protect the American citizen from unreasonable governmental and corporate power. The white collar criminals of the Bush administration with their allies in congress, the business and banking communities manipulate the stock market to produce anxiety during the election fraud and then manipulate the energy markets to drive through an extreme and irresponsible energy program designed to make a windfall of money for their already obscenely wealthy social circle. The fact that these men, with their puppet king George, know no shame is evident in the reckless way they disregard the sacred trust that is the Constitution of our country. They imbrued for ever the peoples trust in their one universal democratic right, the right to their VOTE. The patriotic citizens of this country have also lost the ideals imbedded in the first amendment, no longer can we gather to have our grievances heard by the head of OUR national government, instead were cordoned off into first amendment zones and have our signs stolen from us at rallies for reasons of "security", this absurd practice of the secret service is obviously intended to silence the voice of the people and create an illusion of consent. If it was an issue of the presidents security it seems to me you want the protesters to hold signs so you would know exactly were they were. The Saint Petersburgh Times ran a story this week about senior citizen protesters being assaulted by security personnel at a bush rally in brother Jeb's Florida for having anti-Bush signs, when supporters were allowed to have pro-Bush signs. Is this American? Is this our freedom of speech? These despots want to allow corporate financing of elections due to their faulty interpretation of the first amendment, but they wont allow older people to hold signs in public, that they don't like. I for one as a patriotic American am ashamed by the conduct of this selected president and his thuggish crew. I am also ashamed to live in a time when such abuse of power goes on unquestioned by the media and the public at large. Our republic has stood the test of time, survived civil war, lived through the era of civil rights and become the richest and most powerful nation on earth. Can it survive the Bush's and a complicit "citizenship" too ignorant and apathetic to even understand what is occurring? Kevin Merrifield
