![]() CONFESSION OF A TEENAGE LIBERAL Daryl Heslop, page 5 08/12/01 I was a Teenage Liberal Dad worked the night shift because we were sleeping then and it just seemed better for my sisters to have Mom home during the day. My parents both developed lung cancer from their work in the asbestos industry when I was in my late teens. I guess they must have breathed while they were at work. My sisters were put in a foster home during the Reagan financial readjustment period. My parents were unable to work as they were both terminally ill. It made little difference though because the plant where they had worked closed down because someone was suing them over asbestosis or something like that. The plant had already laid off almost everyone so it really didn't affect us that much because Mom and Dad were too sick to work anyway. It was during the week following their funerals that I realized something was wrong. Why hadn't my parents invested in Microsoft stock. Why hadn't they purchased Mutual funds, or bought Treasury bonds with the money they had squandered on clothes and food and medicine for my sisters. They had spent what savings they had accumulated, largely on themselves, for cancer treatment. Their company had promised them a company retirement plan if they would keep the union out. The asbestos company soon merged with a tobacco company and discontinued their medical coverage. The company had no other option, there were too many employees breathing while they were at work and the lung cancer cases were getting out of control. They didn't really need to buy braces or glasses for my sisters they could have felt their way to school and kept their mouths shut. Why hadn't my parents gone into politics and gotten elected to Congress where they would have had unlimited medical coverage along with a super retirement plan. But No, liberal Democrats like they were had to breath at work. If they had lived they would probably have wanted a 4o hour work week, and sick leave also. The cloud of liberalism was finally starting to lift from me. I suddenly saw that beautiful sunset on the California coast that President Reagan always talked about and suddenly my mind cleared. I would become a Republican!! They had an answer for everything and none of it cost money. I said No to drugs, poverty, education, and then it got easy. All I had to do was say No, what could be more simple? Liberals wanted everything, clean air, clean water, safe working conditions, medical insurance, social security benefits, voting rights, and even wanted their votes counted, and all I had to do to be a good Republican was say, No, No, No, No, No!!!! I could not believe that at one time in my life I actually campaigned for Jimmy Carter. I never understood exactly why so many people disliked Ronald Reagan. He talked so nice and always had a smile and a wave for everyone and he knew how to tell stories. He and both Bushs have so much in common its uncanny. They have the same values and they know how to make money the old fashioned way, CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS and INFLUENCE PEDDLING! Spend and borrow, and say NO, No, NO, No, NOoooo! What could be easier than that? My idols of today are Tom Delay, Trent Lott. Dick Armey----God, I'm laughing so hard I can't type----:) Rush Limbaugh, Bob Dole, Ha, Ha, Jim Ryan, Sam Brownback, Knewt Gingrich, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford,---I don't think I can go on!!!!---(: Rupert Murdoch, Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms, Ted Olson, Ken Starr, Jeb and Neal Bush, Katy Harris, and the entire Media! For those Republicans I forgot, please forgive me, I LOVE YA'ALL! My all around personal favorites are Justices O'Conner, Thomas, Scalia, Rhenquist, and Kennedy. The Fabulous Supreme Court Five have done more to eradicate Liberalism than any who have gone before, or will follow! They are just warming up and more Federalist Judges are on the way. Happy days are here again, big time! There, I've confessed! I once was a liberal, but now I've seen the
"thousand points of light"! I don't even say "conscience" out loud anymore.
I'm FREE, I'm not as Radical as I'd like to be, but I'm praying for
guidance! I know it will come, God is a Conservative! Jesus was Compassionate!
Add one Republican and you have a Holy Trinity.
